WEAVING THE FUTURE – FESTIVAL OF THE NEW EUROPEAN BAUHAUS
Weaving the Future is a side event participating in the Festival of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), a four-day programme of activities taking place across Europe from 9 to 12 June 2022. The Festival aims to explore the NEB values of beauty, sustainability and togetherness, and their power to address societal challenges.
The exhibition will be an unexpected journey where tradition meets innovation, where contemporary design combines with ancient craft, and where old and young work together to create beauty. Each artwork will narrate a story of an inter-disciplinary and inter-generational group of women whose mission is to breathe new life into the ancient weaving technique still practiced in Sarule, using innovative and experimental design: a story that is firmly rooted in the past while growing decisively towards the future.
A visual and tactile universe of amazing shapes and colours, of ancestral crafting skills passed down over the centuries, and of the expert hands of older weavers meeting the enthusiasm of younger generations to create a better future, together.
